In a surprising turn of events, Uber stated its plans to start listing all New York City taxis on its app. The company has been facing a driver shortage since the pandemic hit in 2020 and with rising gas prices, Uber doesn’t foresee an improvement without intervention. The city’s yellow cabs have also seen their share of hardships, and the partnership is expected to provide mutual advantages.
Customers can expect to pay about the same amount for taxi rides as they would for Uber X rides according to the rideshare company. Although Uber drivers typically can’t see what a trip will pay before they decide to accept it, the city’s 14,000 cabbies will have that option.
The collaboration between Uber and Taxis will give users more options and provide cabbies with more opportunities for work. New Yorkers can expect to start hailing yellow cabs via the app by the end of the summer.
