Subcontracting Concepts, LLC (“SCI”) recently participated in discussions with Congresswoman Elise Stefanik’s Washington D.C. office regarding newly co-sponsored federal independent contractor legislation entitled the “Workforce Flexibility and Choice Act” (WFCA). Mr. Marek Laco, Deputy Chief of Staff for Elise Stefanik explained the background for the derivation of the WFCA including its intent to support independent contractors in various industries through legislation that can be expected to be supported by party lines alike. Participating in the discussion from SCI were Pete Fidopiastis, President and General Counsel, and Todd T. Oliver, Director of Government Affairs. SCI provided support for the legislation including invaluable details for how such legislation would impact the essential Final Mile Delivery Industry across the nation, gained from SCI’s unique national viewpoint as an industry leader third-party administrator (“TPA”). Also discussed, were suggestions for clarifying revisions to the WFCA and targeted amendments to the Fair Labor Standards Act to clarify independent contractor status. SCI vowed its continued support on the industry issue along with its concerted effort toward an ongoing dialogue with Congresswoman Stefanik and her Washington D.C. office staff.
